Due to his on-court success and flashy style-of-play, Earl Monroe was given the nickname Earl “The Pearl”. He ignited both his teammates and fan whenever he stepped onto the court. Under the leadership of Hall Of Fame Coach Clarence “Big House” Gaines at Winston-Salem State University, Monroe helped lead the Rams to a NCAA College Division Championship during his senior year of 1967.
He joined the NBA in 1967 and parlayed his talents into a distinguished 13-year career.
