Michael Jackson is unarguably the King of Pop … or is he? I mean, there are two others – Usher and Chris Brown – who have made classic hits and who give us electric stage performances just like the MJ.  Will they remix history and take MJ’s place?

Ummm … maybe not, but they definitely have given MJ some competition.

When Usher hit the scene he wasn’t exactly what you would call competition for the King of Pop, but as he developed as an artist he was pushing hits out like Lauryn Hill is pushing out babies.

Case and point:Usher’s second studio album, “My Way”, and the following studio release, “8701,” both sold more than 8 million copies worldwide.  These albums featured songs like “My Way,” “Nice in Slow,” “You Remind Me,” and “You Got It Bad.” Let’s not mention the 2004 “Confessions” album, which was certified platinum due largely to the success of songs like “Yeah,” “Burn,” “My Boo,”  and “Confessions Part II.” Need I say more?

Not only was he a hit maker, he could also square up with the king of pop on the dance floor, making him even more competition.  Then something happened.  A little guy from Tappahannock, Virginia came straight for his neck.

Unlike Usher, Chris Brown hit the musical scene hard. The song “Run It!” from his first album topped the Billboard Hot 100, making Brown the first male artist to have his debut single top the chart since Montell Jordan in 1995.  Chris didn’t stop there. second studio album, Exclusive was released worldwide in November 2007. It spawned two successful singles; his second U.S. number one hit, “Kiss Kiss” featuring T-Pain and “With You“, which peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100.[3][4] Brown has released a deluxe version of his album called The Forever Edition. The first single from it, “Forever“, was released in May 2008 and reached number two on Billboard Hot 100.[5] Exclusive has been certified Platinum by the RIAA. The third studio album, titled Graffiti, was released on December 15, 2009. The first official single was “I Can Transform Ya“, featuring Lil Wayne and Swizz Beatz, which peaked at number-twenty on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Brown’s eighth Top 20 hit on that chart. He has had various other hit singles. Let’s not forget to mention that his dance routines have been compared to the likes of Michael Jackson.

So, who is the baddest? I would argue MJ. I mean, he started it all.  He is a classic artist … but you can’t deny the success of these other two talented young men.

What’s the verdict?
