As I was doing my daily reading, I ran across this post – P. Diddy “I Just Want the President to Do Better!” I automatically agreed with P. Diddy, which for me is a big deal (I think Diddy is the dirt in Dirty Money … but that’s a subject for another day).

I dug into the post a little deeper and realized that I really did agree with Diddy, but I will take it a little further.  I don’t just want President Obama to do better, I need him to do better.

In 2008, collectively as a nation we voted for the change that President Obama promised us.  He promised change we could believe in and ultimately change we could feel.  We were promised health care reform, jobs and a better quality of life.  While we knew that it would take some time for things to come around and that we wouldn’t see change overnight, I think we all believed that the change he promised us he could and would deliver on within a reasonable time after being elected.  As African Americans we believed in him simply because he was black (a fact a lady matter-of-factly stated in the hair salon the other day) and we believed he could bridge the divide between Republicans and Democrats, build the consensus needed to move this nation ahead.

Well, I am not so sure I still believe. I mean I want to believe, but right now I can’t say I do.  I haven’t seen much consensus building and the promises of health care reform and jobs – thumbs down. My most current complaint – high gas prices!

People are losing their jobs left and right, foreclosures are at an all time high, working class families are having a hard time meeting their basic needs and prices for everything from gas to paper clips are going through the roof (don’t get me started on the fact that milk is darn near $5/gallon) and seemingly rise higher everyday.  We can’t continue like this as a nation.

I am tired of hearing people excuse his lack of results as he had so much to do and blaming George Bush for making the hole he had to climb out of so big. His daddy and Ronald Regan didn’t make it easy on  Bill Clinton, but I be doggone we had some good years with the Clinton administration. In record time he turned this nation around – economy included.  So, I say to President Obama … please, please get it together. I want to continue to believe in you, but right now my pockets are telling me it is time for change – again.
