JCSU’s Center for Applied Leadership and Community Development and the Smith Institute for Applied Research announced that Katherine Loflin will serve as the lead consultant for the Soul of the Northwest Corridor Initiative.

The Soul of the Northwest Corridor Initiative will examine what community qualities attach residents to the area, how the area is performing in these areas and how this attachment can serve as a catalyst for the community’s well-being, specifically in local economic growth. The new initiative is patterned after the John and James McKnight Foundation’s Soul of the Community Project. The Soul of the Community project is a 3-year $2.371 million partnership between Gallup Poll and the Foundation to undertake the survey and research in 26 communities across the nation. Johnson C. Smith University is taking the Soul of the Community framework and adapting it to the neighborhood level to examine the Northwest Corridor in Charlotte.

“We are extremely pleased to have Dr. Loflin serve as the Senior Research Fellow for the Soul of the Northwest Corridor Initiative,” said Sherrill Hampton, Director, Center for Applied Leadership and Community Development. “Her expertise will help Johnson C. Smith University continue to develop programming which addresses the needs of our surrounding neighborhoods by providing a new, expanded way to think about community engagement and economic empowerment.”

Loflin is an expert in philanthropy, community practice, civic engagement, program evaluation, nonprofit organizations and media relations. In 2007, she founded Loflin Consulting Solutions to provide consultation services in these areas.
