VIA THE CHARLOTTE OBSERVER

The news keeps getting worse for the EpiCentre. Developer Afshin Ghazi filed for bankruptcy protection trying to stall what developer Afshin Ghazi calls the “wrongful foreclosure” of his uptown entertainment hub, slated to be sold at public auction this fall, the Charlotte Observer reported.

Ghazi continues to reassure customers that these business proceedings won’t affect services at the center, but it does make us wonder about CIAA 2011. The EpiCentre is now a central location for CIAA parties. If it’s sold at a public auction this fall, will its new owners still allow it to be party central for the big tournament. Will it even remain an entertainment complex?

Promoter Michael Kitchen who sponsored parties at Mez last year said he’s a little concerned about the future of the complex, but plans to move ahead as he did last year. The worst case would be if the new owners don’t embrace the tournament and its parties. The best case would be if the new owners are even more open to hosting CIAA-related events, he said.

“I am going to move forward and see how they handle it,” he said.
