Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Cranberry Orange Compote:
    • In a saucepan, combine fresh cranberries, granulated sugar, orange zest, orange juice, and a cinnamon stick.
    • Simmer over medium heat until the cranberries burst and the mixture thickens to a compote consistency.
    • Remove the cinnamon stick and let the compote cool.
  2. Make the Vanilla Custard:
    • In a saucepan, heat the whole milk and vanilla bean (or vanilla extract) until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat and let it steep for 10 minutes.
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together egg yolks, granulated sugar, and flour until well combined.
    • Gradually pour the warm milk into the egg mixture, whisking continuously.
    • Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens into a custard. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  3. Whip Up the Creamy Layer:

    • In a trifle dish or individual serving glasses, layer slices of ladyfinger cookies or pound cake at the bottom.

    • Pour a layer of vanilla custard over the compote.
