Wildfires are raging in the North Carolina mountains, forcing evacuations in Lake Lure and threatening to send smoke to the Triangle area. Several fires are burning in western North Carolina. Gov. Pat McCrory declared a state of emergency. Wildfires have burned more 1000 acres. Drought conditions throughout the state have made it difficult for firefighters to contain the blaze. Charlotte is in under a drought advisory. Lawn irrigation is only allowed on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
