Actress Raven Symone knows how to stir up some controversy! Usually she’s responsible for the cringe worthy pop culture opinion on The View but she recently spilled some interesting tea about her experiences with being fat-shamed in Hollywood.
Raven was known for being a beautifully curvaceous young woman on her hit Disney series, That’s So Raven. Once the show ended, she loss a significant amount of weight. Instead of being praised for her new slender and healthier body, she was pushed to gain the weight back.
“I feel like when I lost my weight, big-girl season came. There’s so many big girls that are now famous. And I was over here, starving…”
Raven says that at her heaviest, she was close to 200 pounds and was often mistaken for being pregnant. However, she shared in an interview with People Magazine that she felt more confident when she was heavier as opposed to attracting the wrong type of attention after her weight loss.
“I thought I look fabulous before and nobody else did…Now I wear bigger clothes because I don’t like the way people stare at me,” she said. “I liked it before. Now, you’re just looking at me for the wrong reasons. Before, you were actually looking at me for a real reason.”
Raven previously shared on The View that her experience with fat-shaming began as a child on The Cosby Show.
“I remember not being able to have the bagel or anything at – we would call it crafty, where it’s just a table of food, ready for you to eat whatever you want. And I remember people would be like, ‘You can’t eat that. You’re getting fat!’ I’m like, ‘I’m seven! I’m hungry!’
The most shocking revelation of Raven’s most recent “Hot Topics” commentary was when she said she was too skinny for her role as Georgia in the short lived ABC Family series, State of Georgia.
“…They had me wear a fat suit because they said I wasn’t the size they wanted me to be.”
