Everyone remembers The Fugees 1996 award winning video “Killing Me Softly”. Well the director behind the 1996 MTV Music Award’s Best R & B Video was Charles McGill, who changed his name to Aswad Ayinde. Recently, Ayinde was found guilty of repeatedly raping one of his six daughters and has been sentenced to 50 years in prison. But that’s not all…Ayinde was found guilty of raping another daughter in a 2011 trial and sentenced to 40 years. So far, he has racked up 90 years in prison time from two of the trials, in which he was found guilty.

My question is, “How?”. Well, according to his wife, Beverly Ayinde, who is now separated from her husband, he isolated their family from other family and friends to protect the “family secret”. She stated that Ayinde, her husband, began raping their daughters when they were as young as 8 years old. Beverly Ayinde testified that her husband “equaled himself to being a prophet: As time went on, he was god-like. I had to call him, ‘my god.’ He equated himself to Jesus Christ … He would sit us all down and lecture us about his greatness and his power … At another point, he equated himself to Prince and Michael Jackson.”

Ayinde is expected to stand trial 5 more times for rape cases involving his other daughters as well.
