Retired CMPD Assistant Chief Vicki Foster Dies

Retired Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Assistant Chief Vicki Foster has died, the department confirmed Thursday. CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings announced her death on X, calling Foster a “dear friend” and saying he had known her for 30 years. According to WCNC, Foster served the department for nearly three decades and became the highest-ranking Black woman in CMPD history. A 2019 Charlotte Magazine profile chronicled her path into law enforcement, which began on a dare after earning a psychology degree from UNC Charlotte. Foster rose through the ranks to assistant chief before retiring in 2020. A cause of death was not given.
