NC House Passes Bill Allowing Concealed Carry Without a Permit

A bill to legalize concealed carry without a permit in North Carolina is one step closer to becoming law. The North Carolina House passed its first reading of Senate Bill 50, which would allow residents to carry concealed weapons in public without a permit. According to WCNC, the Senate approved the bill last week, and it’s now in committee. It must pass two more readings in the House before reaching Gov. Josh Stein’s desk. Senate Leader Phil Berger, who blocked a similar proposal in 2023, is now a co-sponsor of SB50, signaling a shift in his stance. A related House bill allowing lawmakers to carry concealed weapons into restricted areas is also under review.
