Street Takeover Shuts Down North Charlotte Road Overnight

A street takeover temporarily shut down a north Charlotte road early Sunday morning. According to WBTV, around 1 a.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg police was patrolling the intersection of Milhaven Lane and Sunset Road, where they found evidence of the reckless event, including tire marks from donuts and smoldering fireworks.
Street takeovers, where drivers perform dangerous stunts like donuts while bystanders watch, have become a recurring issue across Charlotte in recent months.
In December 2023, North Carolina enacted a new law targeting such activities. The law allows officers to seize vehicles, impose fines starting at $1,000, and charge drivers involved. Repeat offenders within two years face felony charges and higher fines.
