First the United States elects its first black president, and now Russia elects its first black elected official – ever.
The town of Novozavidovo elected a 48-year-old West African man as municipal councilor. Jean Gregoire Sagbo is the first black to be elected to office in Russia, according to wire reports. Ironically, he was elected in a town in which people used to stare at him because they had never seen a black man.
