As family and friends laid 19-year-old Deston Garrett to rest on Friday, Sacramento officers were arresting his alleged killer, 23-year-old Frederick Marshall, FOX40 reports.

Marshall and Garrett were watching a YouTube video Garrett made on June 9. Tanya Garrett, Deston’s mother, said her son was excited about a song he posted on the social media channel and wanted to show Marshall.

She says the former friends then got into an argument and her son asked Marshall to leave. That is when authorities believe Marshall shot Garrett around 9 p.m. over the disagreement and fled the scene.

Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies booked Marshall on voluntary manslaughter charges. He is currently being held on $100,000 bail, KTLA reports.

“It’s like, you open your door to the devil and you let him in,” Tanya Garrett said. “That’s what I feel like I did.”

Garrett said her son and Marshall spent many moments together, with the family supporting Marshall by any means necessary.

“You come in and destroy my home like that,” Garrett said to FOX40. “After I fed you, and I’ve clothed you—I mean, we just went camping a few weeks ago.”

Ultimately, family and friends remember the teen as an outgoing, precocious young man who loved football.

“He was my world,” Garrett said. “So I feel like I lost my world.”
