Bobby Brown and his wife Alicia Etheredge are reportedly expecting a new bundle of joy. According to a close source, Etheredge – who tied the knot with Brown back in 2012 – is carrying the couple’s third child. She gave birth to their second child, Bohdi, on July 11, while Bobby’s late daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown was in a coma in a Georgia hospital. Bobbi Kristina died on July 26. In a new memoir titled My Prerogative, which is slated to be released in June, Brown wrote that Bobbi Kristina’s passing was one of the most “agonizing” times in his life. “Right after I signed on to write my story, I went through one of the most agonizing traumas I had ever experienced with the death of my daughter,” he told Billboard magazine after announcing the book. “But I was surprised by how therapeutic it was to work on this project, to look at the entire arc of my life and to realize that although there has been considerable pain, I have also been incredibly blessed.” The new baby will be Brown’s seventh child. He has six children with four different women. Read more.

White Americans are Nearly as Blind to Their Racism as Ever Before

Although people of color deal with the perils of racial discrimination on the daily, whether subtle or blatant, many White Americans often turn a blind eye to the issues at hand. In a New York Times piece, writer Jim Grimsley recounted experiences in his life: “I have written a memoir about those years, during which I watched the dismantling of Jim Crow laws, and since its publication I have taken part in many conversations about race,” wrote Grimsley. “In those discussions I have found that black people are all too aware that progress on racial issues has hardly moved forward at all, while white people are nearly as blind to their racism as ever. Comfortable in our beliefs, [white liberals] ignore the fact that we sit inside an ideology of white superiority that gives us enormous advantages.” Grimsley authored the book, How I Shed My Skin: Unlearning the Racist Lessons of a Southern ChildhoodRead more.

NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton had some disparaging words for police officers who claimed they were forced to meet quotas when it came to summonses and arrests. During a press conference held at One Police Plaza in New York on Tuesday, Bratton responded to an article published about cops who were pressured to meet quotas in order to advance within the police force. “Bulls–t is my response to that,” he said. “If any of our cops out there still think we’re pushing for the summonses, etc., I’m sorry, we’re pushing to reduce crime.” The article was centered on a Brooklyn officer leading a lawsuit against the department. “For that officer, one of 36,000, that may be his impression. He’s entitled to that impression, but those are not the practices, policies, procedures that I’m putting into this organization,” said Bratton. Read more.
