Nicki Minaj feels extremely snubbed by the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards nominations, and went in on Twitter, much to the delight of her Barbz. But then Taylor Swift tried to come for her and you know what Barbz weren’t having it.  It all started when MTV tweeted a congratulatory statement to Nicki about being nominated for a 2015 VMA for “Best Female Video” and “Best Hip Hop Video” for “Anaconda,” but Minaj felt that “Feeling Myself” should have gotten a nod too and insinuated that Black women in music don’t get the respect they deserve despite being a major influence on pop culture, yet White artists who do similar things (inspired by #BlackGirlMagic, of course) get all the love.

Here’s the string of tweets:

Somehow Taylor Swift, who is also nominated, felt like this was a personal attack on her (side eye), and tried to come for Nicki with a tweet that is now deleted (but not before the Internets got a screengrab):

But Nicki is sharp, so she tossed in a polite drag…

But Nicki’s Barbz started falling in line and she began retweeting her soldiers who were supporting her argument:

More from the Barbz:

Bloop.

Silence on Taylor Swift’s end, but Nicki has a point. I’m just wondering why these Black artists still put so much thought into institutions that aren’t really here for them in the first place.

As a media insider, I can tell you that many Black artists don’t think the Black-focused award shows that actually do celebrate them mean ish. Then they get wake up calls when stuff like this happens.

Dah well.

In the meantime, I’m going to pull out the world’s tiniest violin, because she’s still working, making music, making tons of money, and has crazy fans who are blindly devoted to her. Their cosigns and accolades are a large part of what really keeps her in business anyway.
