Authorities are still trying to figure out what made 20-year-old Adam Lanza kill his mother and then kill 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Friday. Lanza then killed himself in what has become one of the worst school shootings in American history.
On Sunday, President Obama visited Newtown Ct, the scene of the tragedy. He spoke privately with victims’ families and then spoke publicly. He challenged the nation to stem the tide of violence that claims innocent lives. He vowed to put politics aside and use his office to try and prevent future tragedies.
Throughout the weekend more details began to emerge about the actual shooting, however, little is still known about Lanza’s motive. The media has painted a portrait of a socially awkward kid who was home-schooled in his later years by a dedicated and loving mother, Nancy.
In the days that have followed Friday’s shooting, we now know that a lot of the information pubished on Friday was incorrect. Lanza’s mother did not work at the school. Lanza was not let into the school. He shot his way in through a window.
In the coming days and weeks, more details will emerge as will more theories. However, those details and those theories will do little to comfort the families of 28 people who lost their lives on Friday.
