The 15 Project is an irreverent and informative talk-show style program where invited guests experience their 15 minutes of fame with Fahamu Pecou, Gantt Center Artist-in-Residence. A witty, often spontaneous look at all aspects of pop culture, the 15 Project seeks to bridge the gap between the worlds of art and culture and the general public. The show spotlights exemplary figures, not only in the fine art world, but also in entertainment, politics and education and is presented in a manner that is appealing to audiences across social, economic, racial and cultural demographics.

The 15 Project will be held 6 to 8 PM, Thursday, October 28 at McColl Center for Visual Art and is free and open to the public. Guests Include:

Joi Gilliam, Singer, Record Producer and Songwriter

Joi Gilliam is a member of Atlanta’s infamous Dungeon Family, her voice graced the tracks of several Outkast, Goodie Mob, TLC songs and non-ATLien artists such as Robbie Williams, George Clinton, Curtis Mayfield, Queen Latifah, Too Short, and D.O.C. to name a few. When her first single, Sunshine and the Rain, off her critically acclaimed, Dallas Austin produced debut album The Pendulum Vibe, hit airwaves in ’93, she was instantly lauded as “the new Madonna.” Madonna, herself, was so in love with the album that she went on to hire Dallas Austin to produce her Bedtime Stories album. Madonna is also responsible for making the call that landed Joi’s becoming the first black model in a major Calvin Klein print ad campaign.

Anna Kooiman, Newscaster

Anna Kooiman was born and raised in Charlotte and is a co-host of Fox News Rising Monday – Friday from 5am – 9am.  It’s news, weather, traffic, entertainment, and FUN you can’t find anywhere else.  Fitness is one of Anna’s biggest passions and she teaches group exercise classes around town.  Before making her way back to the Queen City in 2008, Anna was a morning anchor at the NBC affiliate in Toledo, OH and a reporter at the ABC affiliate in Wilmington, NC where she also went to college. At UNCW Anna ran distance on the Varsity Track Team, was philanthropy chair of Alpha Delta Pi, and graduated from the Honors Scholars Program with a degree in Communication Studies with a minor in Community Health.
