Despite the recession, we are still a consumer culture. My mother still shops online til she drops. She also has clothes in her closet that she hasn’t worn and may never wear. To curb her shopping habit, I gave her a copy of Phillip Bloch’s new book “The Shopping Diet: Spend Less and Get More.” It’s about learning to shop in our closest and rediscovering the great buys we purchased months (or even years ago.) The book, however, is more than a meditation on curbing our shopping appetite. It seeks to examine what drives people to compulsively shop.

QcityMetro columnist Lashawnda Becoats offered her take on Bloch’s book, and how it inspired her to shop in her closet.
