The couple, who had been together for years and would have celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary in October, are now calling it quits. Dreka Gates filed for divorce from the rapper on Wednesday, July 30, officially ending one of hip-hop’s most talked-about relationships.
Dreka, 38, who has also been Kevin’s longtime manager and business partner, is asking for joint legal and physical custody of their two children—12-year-old Islah and 11-year-old Khaza. In the filing, she’s also requesting spousal support while making it clear that she doesn’t want Kevin to receive any support from her. The official date of separation is listed as July 10, and the reason cited is the ever-familiar “irreconcilable differences.”

The timing of the filing raised eyebrows, especially since it came just weeks after social media personality Brittany Renner claimed she and Kevin were briefly married. In an interview with REAL 92.3 LA, Renner revealed that the two tied the knot on April 6 and divorced by May 28—just 52 days later. Renner added that the short-lived union followed Islamic customs, including a 90-day waiting period meant for reconciliation and to ensure no pregnancy resulted from the marriage. “During those 90 days, you are not to entertain anybody romantically,” Renner explained, adding that she had no regrets about their quick divorce.

That revelation stunned fans, considering Kevin and Dreka were still legally married at the time. Some began to speculate that the Gateses may have separated long before it was made public or that their own marriage may have been a spiritual one without legal documentation. Regardless, Dreka’s divorce filing confirms the end of their chapter.

Meanwhile, Dreka has also had to deal with rumors of infidelity on her end. Back in May, gossip swirled that she was romantically involved with her personal trainer. Dreka swiftly shut that talk down. “I HAVE to address this because it’s gone a little too far,” she wrote in a social media post. “I have NEVER had any type of sexual or romantic encounters with my personal trainer or any ‘hired help’ and will NEVER. Just to make it CLEAR, sorry ladies but I am strictly [eggplant emoji]. I need the real thang!”
As of now, neither Kevin nor Dreka has spoken publicly about the divorce filing. However, fans are hoping that the former couple can move forward in peace and continue to co-parent their children with love and respect.
