Roy Cooper Enters U.S. Senate Race
Former North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper officially launched his campaign on July 28, 2025, to seek the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Republican Sen. Thom Tillis. According to WCNC, in a video announcement on X, Cooper, 68, said he decided “after thought and prayer” to run, citing concern over the national debt, healthcare cuts, and threats to Social Security and Medicaid. Known for never losing a statewide election, Cooper provides Democrats a strong contender to flip a critical North Carolina seat.
