North Carolinians Can Now Rent Out Private Pools Under New Law

As of July 1, North Carolina residents can legally rent out their private swimming pools through online platforms, thanks to a new state law—GS 130A‑280—that recently took effect.
According To qualify, pool owners must meet specific safety and maintenance standards, including:
- Fencing or barriers at least 4 feet high with self-latching gates to prevent unsupervised access
- Clear signage outlining pool rules, depth markers, and potential hazards
- Basic lifesaving equipment, such as life rings and reaching poles
- Properly fitted covers on submerged suction outlets
- Clean water with balanced chemical levels
- Non-slip surfaces on decks and surrounding areas
The law aims to ensure that private pool rentals meet public safety standards while giving residents a new way to earn income.
