Several North Carolina counties were placed under a flood watch Wednesday morning due to the risk of heavy rainfall.

According to WBTV, the watch includes Anson, Richmond, and Stanly counties and remains in effect from 2 p.m. through late Wednesday night.

Forecasters warned that urban areas with poor drainage, along with rivers, creeks, and low-lying spots, could experience flooding from excessive runoff. Slow-moving thunderstorms are expected to bring significant rainfall to already saturated ground, increasing the threat of flash flooding in vulnerable areas.
