JCSU Placed on 12-Month Probation

Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte’s only Historically Black College or University (HBCU), has been placed on a 12-month probation by its accrediting body.
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, which has monitored the school for two years, cited concerns about the university’s financial stability. According to WBTV, the commission said JCSU failed to meet standards for financial responsibility, control of finances and external funds, and adherence to federal and state requirements.
Despite the probation, the university remains accredited while working to address the issues.
