American Airlines saw a busy Memorial Day weekend at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, with more than 2,000 flights departing over the four-day period. According to WCNC, the airline is preparing for an even busier summer, estimating it will operate around 72,200 flights out of Charlotte between May 16 and September 2.

Charlotte Douglas serves as a major connecting hub and ranks as the nation’s third busiest for connecting flights, with over 75% of travelers passing through en route to other destinations. Nearly 90% of the airport’s passengers fly with American Airlines, which is supported by a workforce of 15,500 employees based in Charlotte. Over the past week, the airline operated nearly 3,950 flights from the airport.
