Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings will retire at the end of the year after more than three decades of service. According to WCCB, CMPD shared the news Sunday evening on social media during Memorial Day weekend, noting Jennings’ 33-year tenure with the department. In a statement, Mayor Vi Lyles praised Jennings as “a transformative leader for CMPD and a true champion for Charlotte.” Jennings, who became chief in 2020, has overseen key reforms and community initiatives during his leadership. The city has not yet announced plans for his replacement.
