The S.C. woman accused of suffocating her children before sinking them in the North Edisto River faces arraignment on Wednesday.
Shaquan Duley, of Hammock Street, Orangeburg, confessed to killing 18-month-old Ja’van T. Duley and 2-year-old Devean C. Duley, Orangeburg County Sheriff Larry Williams announced at a news conference. Authorities questioned Duley late into the evening at the Orangeburg-Calhoun Regional Detention Center on Monday.
The boys’ bodies were pulled early Monday morning from a submerged Chrysler sedan in the river, about seven miles west of Orangeburg, Williams said. The store is bizarre and heartbreaking. She told authorities she suffocated her children with her hands.
“She just wanted to get rid of the children, as sad as it may be,” Williams said, according to CNN.
