Novant Health has opened a new $170 million, four-story tower at its Matthews Medical Center, expanding critical care services in response to the area’s growing population. The 150,000-square-foot expansion adds 20 more beds, bringing the total to 177, and includes a new intensive care unit (ICU) with 16 beds, up from 10.
According to The Charlotte Observer, the facility, located at 1500 Matthews Township Parkway, celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday. The new tower features 24 private rooms equipped with smart technology for patient communication and education. Surgical services were also expanded, with seven operating rooms, three procedure rooms, and additional cardiovascular suites.
The medical/surgical unit will open in early February, with the expanded ICU expected to open this summer. The expansion aims to meet the growing healthcare needs of Matthews’ expanding community.
