Multiple officers shot in Charlotte

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is gearing up for one of the city’s largest New Year’s Eve events, following a shooting that left five injured at last year’s Uptown celebration. In response, the 2024 festivities have been moved indoors from Romare Bearden Park to Truist Field. While safety wasn’t the primary reason for the change, officials say the new venue could offer additional security.

According to WCCB, CMPD plans heightened protection in and around the park, anticipating large crowds across Uptown. The event, with tickets priced at $10, opens at 10 p.m. and will feature metal detectors and restrictions on bag sizes. The celebration will culminate with a fireworks display at midnight.
