As we age, we become more mindful of our health. Gluten-free options are something I have noticed has become extremely prevalent in restaurants. With that being said, November has become Gluten-Free Diet Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about the benefits of a gluten-free diet for individuals with celiac disease and gluten sensitivity. Celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder, affects about 1 in 100 people globally, and even small amounts of gluten can trigger severe health issues. The observance encourages people to understand the importance of avoiding gluten, which is found in wheat, barley, and rye, for those with these conditions. It also highlights the growing availability of gluten-free products and the importance of reading food labels carefully to prevent cross-contamination. Advocates stress that with proper diet management, people with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity can lead healthy lives. November serves as a reminder to educate others, support those affected, and promote research into gluten-related disorders.
