The 80s is known for many things, but most remember it as the era when Reaganomics depressed the US economy and the war on drugs began to kill the minority community.  It was also the time where rap music and the hip hop culture began to go mainstream.  Many linked this new musical genre to the drugs and crime plaguing many inner-city neighborhoods.  As the drug game picked up, so did the number of deaths of blacks by blacks.  An all-star group of East Coast rappers got together to send a message to all – stop the violence.  The resulting work was the song “Self-Destruction.”  Soon after several West Coast rappers joined forces to send the same message in “We Are All In The Same Gang.”
