It’s a Wellness Wednesday on 105.3RNB. I have a question. Have you heard of the term “cortisol face?”  It’s when the cortisol levels, which are stress hormones, are extremely high in the body and gives your face a puffy look. It can be due to the medication you’re taking, a medical condition or when your body is just plain old stressed out. The high cortisol level causes fat to deposit in the face, creating a rounded shape.  Also, high cortisol levels can lead to salt and water retention, which can also make a person’s face appear puffy. So, if you think you have a cortisol face, have a discussion with your doctor because it could be an indication of a BIGGER internal issue. However, in the meantime, there are some things you an do to help prevent and eliminate “cortisol face.” According to ABC News medical contributor Dr. Darien Sutton, a board-certified emergency medicine physician, “The best ways to keep your cortisol stable is to go back to the basic ways of living healthy. Getting good quality sleep, making sure that you’re having a well-balanced diet, limiting added sugar, also getting daily movement and even practicing mindfulness or meditation to help control your stress.” I know, it easier said than done, but you have to start somewhere!  That’s today’s Tellness Wednesday Tip of the Day with Olympia D on 105.3rnb.
