Big Pat, Hornets Announcer Has Died

Longtime Charlotte Hornets announcer Patrick Doughty, affectionately known as Big Pat, passed away, the team announced Wednesday, July 24.
According to WBTV, Big Pat served as the team’s PA announcer for nearly 20 seasons. Known for his distinctive voice echoing through the Spectrum Center, Big Pat had been facing health challenges, although specific details were not disclosed by the team.
Originally from Maryland, Big Pat had a background in R&B and sports talk radio in Charlotte, according to the NBA. In 2020, he was honored with induction into the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hall of Fame.
