The South Carolina Aquarium released two rehabilitated sea turtles back into the wild on Thursday. Frittata, a green sea turtle, and Over Easy, a Kemp’s ridley sea turtle, are the 22nd and 23rd turtles released by the aquarium’s Sea Turtle Care Center this year.
According to WBTV, Frittata was rescued in North Myrtle Beach with swelling near the ear and poor bloodwork results. The turtle underwent antibiotics, an ear debridement to remove damaged tissue, and treatment to regulate diet and swimming patterns.
Over Easy was found at Garden City Pier with a fishing hook lodged in the back of its throat. Fortunately, bloodwork showed normal results, and the hook was successfully removed under light sedation in under 10 minutes. Both turtles received antibiotics, fluids, and supplements to aid their recovery.
