Mayor Anthony Foxx is urging all Charlotteans to “Go Green for Charlotte” this week by wearing green to support Charlotte’s new residential recycling program – Recycle It!

Effective July 1, Charlotte residents will notice several improvements to the current recycling program.  The most noticeable will be the larger, green rollout cart that resident will use for their recyclables. The 96-gallon cart will replace the current 16-gallon red bin that is used to collect recyclables. The new cart:

  • Holds six times more recyclables than the red bin
  • Has a lid, which helps prevent recyclables from littering the street
  • Features wheels, making it easier to take the recyclables to the curb

Starting in July, residents will also be able to recycle empty aerosol cans and all plastics with the exception of plastic number 6.
