New changes could soon take place in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools system.

The CMS Board of Education will hold an emergency meeting on Tuesday to discuss “matters related to Superintendent [Earnest Winston] Contracts and Attendant Personnel Items.”

In February 2021, the CMS school board approved a new contract for Winston that extended his contract through 2025 and raised his salary from $280,000 to $288,400.

Winston was named superintendent in August 2019 after the former superintendent, Dr. ClytonWilcox was suspended and later resigned

During his three-year career as the superintendent, CMS has faced controversies concerning school safety issues, gun violence, and campus sexual assaults.
