Jazz promoter Tammy Greene co-produced last weekend’s successful jazz festival. It was one of Greene’s largest events and a long overdue addition to Charlotte’s cultural scene. Greene is known as the Jazz Diva. Her second concert in the Carolina Concert Series is Nick Colionne and Friends!

on Aug. 7 at Halton Theater.

If you could meet any singer – dead or alive – who would you want to meet? Why?

I would have loved to meet Lena Horne. She had to endure so much as an woman, and entertainer and

african american, I would love to talk with her one on one to hear personal story and ask questions.

What song brings back the most memories for you? Why?

” Winelight” by Grover Washington Jr. Grover’s music was everywhere! There was a local TV show that highlighted local middle and high school athletes, and the theme song for the TV show was Grover Washington’s song “Winelight” I played basketball softball and tennis, so obviously I watched the show ALL of the time. Everytime I hear “Winelight,” I think back to my middle school and high school years.

What’s your favorite musical era? Why?

The 70’s is my favorite musical era. First, because I grew up with five brothers

in which four of them were in high school throughout the ’70s. They all either played in a band or listened to a lot of music. Teddy Pendergrass, Patti Labelle and the Blubelles, The Brothers Johnson, Earth Wind and Fire, The Dramatics, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, the Temptations, Bootsy Collins, I can go on and on. I grew up in Philadelphia, so you KNOW there was always music and live performances everywhere!

What would be the dream concert that you would like to bring to Charlotte?

I LOVE piano, so I would love to bring Herbie Hancock and Joe Sample together on one night! That would be hot!!!!
