The only thing that seems to vary more than the meaning of a “traditional woman” these days is the meaning of a traditional engagement ring. While many may envision their fairytale moment to include a velvet box with a huge clear princess cut diamond ring, some of the more “non-traditional” ladies in Hollywood are opting for a different vibe: emerald engagement rings.
Pantone declared emerald the color of the year for 2013, but the birthstone of May babies is more than just a beautiful hue of green, it holds a romantic meaning as well. According to the tales, the emerald is the sacred stone of the goddess Venus, is thought to preserve love and has long been the symbol of hope. There is also a saying, “lucky for love, give your lover an emerald to stay faithful,” and that may explain why we’ve been seeing some of Hollywood’s lead actresses from different walks of love lives opt for the gem.
For example, take Olivia Wilde, she kept the diamond in the center and opted for emerald additives. Mrs. “Secret Wedding,” Zoe Saldana, showcased her huge emerald on the red carpet, while mom Halle Berry has also been rocking a custom and very unique emerald of her own.
