There’s a new “Cheers” in town, or at least the new TBS sitcom “Sullivan and Son” hopes so. The brand new comedy has already drawn comparisons to the classic 80’s show, “Cheers,” the bar where everyone knew your name, which boosted the careers of Kirstie Alley, Kelsey Grammer and Woody Harrelson.  But comparisons end with one big difference –“Sullivan and Son” has an African-American character.

Comedian Roy Wood, Jr. will be a recurring guest star on the show, which takes place in a Pittsburgh bar owned by Steve Sullivan’s family. Sullivan, played by Steve Byrne, leaves a lucrative corporate law job in New York City to return home and reconnect with his small city roots.  Wood is a home video store owner struggling to compete in the changing video industry who also has problems at home. He spends a great deal of time in the bar, drinking through his problems and of course, provides some comic relief and support to his old buddy. Actor Vince Vaughn of “Old School” and “Wedding Crashers” fame is an executive producer on the show.
