John Singleton

Acclaimed film director John Singleton passed away today from complications of a stroke he suffered a few weeks ago. I can speak for my generation, this brotha definitely helped usher in a new era of young african american film makers. In 1991 when he came with “Boyz In The Hood” (which dropped right after Mario Van Peebles smash “New Jack City”), it gave us films we could go see that we could directly relate to. The realness of his films in my opinion was his strong point, & it was evident in all of his successes. He also helped start many careers in the movie game like Cuba Gooding Jr, Nia Long, Morris Chestnut, Tyrese, Taraji P. Henson, & most notably….Ice Cube. Rest In Peace brotha, you will truly be missed.
