A soon to be NFL Hall of Famer is calling it a career.
Julius Peppers, the Carolina Panthers DE and the franchise’s No. 2 overall draft pick and 2002 has announced his retirement on Friday. Peppers, 39, ranks fourth all-time in NFL history with 159.5 sacks.
“Only time can reveal what’s next, but my time here is up. No regrets, no looking back and nothing left to give,” Peppers said in a video message posted by the team.
“He’s a special player and a special person. His consistency and the ability to make big plays at big times are what define him on the field,” said general manager Marty Hurney, who drafted Peppers. “Off the field, he’s a great leader. He chooses his words carefully. He’s got great perspective not only on football, but on life. For him to be able to come back and finish his career as a Panther is a great ending to a phenomenal career.”
Peppers, who starred at North Carolina both on the basketball court and on the football field, spent ten years with the Panthers and also played three years with the Chicago Bears and four years with the Green Bay Packers.
