Today Heavy D turns 43. Heavy D is the former leader of the hip-hop group Heavy D & The Boyz. The group maintained a sizable audience during much of the 90’s and helped put money-earning Mount Vernon on the map with hits like “Mr. Big Stuff,” “The Overweight Lover,” and “Now That We Found Love.”
Heavy made loving a big man cool and dark-skinned sistas cool. In 1994, Heavy proclaimed his love for dark-skinned sistas (long before R. Kelly) in “Black Coffee.”
