The aftermath of the Keith Lamont Scott shooting is still inspiring efforts to bring Charlotte together to address issues of police distrust, joblessness and other issues. The Charlotte Clergy Coalition for Justice is another local organization that is working to build community trust.

In January, the coalition will start holding public meetings on its effort to create a Commission on Reconciliation and Equity, the Charlotte Observer reported.

“We want to move quickly into healing, but until there’s reconciliation there will be no healing,” Rev. Amantha Barbee, coalition president and pastor of Statesville Avenue Presbyterian Church, told the Observer. “It didn’t happen overnight, and it certainly can’t be rectified overnight.”

There will be a series of meetings in the upcoming months ranging from a facilitated dialogue about the Scott Shooting at next week’s Tuesday Morning Breakfast Meeting to discussion of the penal system. The schedule is posted at the bottom of this story.
