Every December the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl brings together the two best HBCU football programs in the country. The G-Men from Grambling State University (10-1) and the Eagles of North Carolina Central University (9-2) are currently in  Atlanta, Georgia to compete against each other in the annual bowl game that highlights and celebrates the talent, legacy and heritage of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Coaches Broderick Fobbs (Grambling) and Jerry Mack (NCCU) talk to the Tom Joyner Morning Show about what the game means to both teams, producing quality student athletes and much more.

On NCCU’s return to the championship game:

JM: “Our guys are excited. We have 10 guys that just graduated and they’re excited. To walk out with a college degree and a national championship is what being a student athlete is all about.”

The importance of Grambling’s debut in the Bowl game:

BF: “It’s not a situation we’ve been in before. Three years ago we didn’t know which way was up. It’s huge for our program that we putting so  many African -Americans in society.”

Who’s really the boss when both father and son are on the same coaching staff?

BF: “I’m supposed to be the boss. I have a bathroom in my office and he’ll just walk in and use my bathroom. I’m like I’m the head coach! It’s tough…one thing is I’ll never raise my voice at him.”

Grambling and NCCU go head to head this Saturday, December 17th on ABC at 12p EST, live from the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, GA.
