Ben Carson has no interest in a cabinet post in the Trump administration, Reuters reports.

The retired neurosurgeon’s adviser, Armstrong Williams, told the news agency that Carson will not consider any such positions because he has no experience overseeing a federal agency. “Dr. Carson doesn’t feel like that’s the best way for him to serve the president-elect,” he explained further.

Carson and President-elect Donald Trump were rivals in the 2016 GOP primaries. After dropping out of the race, Carson endorsed Trump and became one of his advisers on outreach to the Black community.

His name has floated as a possible candidate to head the Department of Health and Human Services. However, Armstrong told The Hill that Carson “was never offered a specific position, but everything was open to him.”

Although Carson has put himself out the running for a post, Armstrong told Reuters the retired physician plans to maintain his friendship with Trump and advise him from outside the White House.
