Wildfires have ravaged more than 3,500 acres of the North Carolina mountains near Lake Lure. Units from Charlotte and Gastonia fire departments were trying to protect Chimney Rock, which has been evacuated since Friday, the Charlotte Observer reported.
Fire crews are everything from bulldozers to controlled burns to stop the fire from advancing. By today, the fire was 40 percent contained Monday. The Observer reported that authorities estimate that they will be able to prevent the fire from advancing this week.
