On Thursday, local dance group gathered at the EpiCentre for a preview party to launch this year’s Breakin’ Convention. The celebration of hip-hop culture returns to Charlotte exclusively this year. It’s tonight and Saturday. The convention features performances from dance companies for the UK, South Africa and Canada. There will also be performances by local groups as well as workshops in Uptown. This is the second year that Charlotte has hosted the convention. Here’s the full line up.

Friday, September 30, 5:00-7:30pm @ Levine Center for the Arts: Performances on the outdoor Obey Your Verse stage in front of Knight Theater, DJ and dance cyphers outside on the plaza, Kids Night dance workshop, free graffiti area (open to all) in the Knight Theater loading dock, food trucks, vendors, and more.

Saturday, October 1, 10:00am-4:00pm: STREET JAM, sponsored by the ASC, at Spirit Square. Free day of fun for the whole family, which includes graffiti area, mega chess, and other interactive outdoor activities. Plus, drum circle with drumSTRONG, hip hop yoga, food trucks, DJ workshops, beatboxing, spoken word, and a free fashion show in McGlohon Theater.
