Charlotte City Mayor Jennifer Roberts and other city leaders spoke this morning a a press conference following a night of unrest in Charlotte. Police Chief Kerr Putney, indicated that officers told Keith Lamont Scott to drop his gun several times before they shot and killed him. Putney reports that Scott did not comply and instead emerged from the vehicle with the weapon, though the family maintains that Scott was reading a book and was unarmed when he was killed. Putney maintains that a handgun was recovered, and that there was no book found.
