Hip Hop legend MC Lyte  is returning to television as one of the mentors on the new season of Sisterhood of Hip Hop on Oxygen. The reality series follows the careers of up and coming rappers Siya, Brianna Perry and Diamond, Audra the Rapper and Lee Mazin.

Lyte talks to the Tom Joyner Morning Show about her successful foundation and the Educate Our Men initiative that supports male HBCU students and what kind of advice she gives to the budding female emcees.

What she’ll offer to the reality show:

“I got a chance to share what I knew. I’m mentoring all of the ladies. I brought my enterprise in to talk branding, foundation…what happens long after you get off the mic.”

Why philanthropy is so important:

“It gives me such a great purpose. I always want to get the name and the brand bigger so that I can give more money to the people who need it.”

Sisterhood Of Hip Hop airs on Oxygen Tuesdays at 9pm ET/PT. Click the link above to hear the entire interview and to learn about Lyte’s new app.
