With eight Grammy awards and millions of records sold over his twenty year career, Usher is undoubtably an accomplished musician. However, it’s been over ten years since the 37-year-old had a starring role in a film. Remember “In The Mix” from 2005?

Beyond some random cameo appearances in Sesame Street, Scary Movie 5 and the Ashton Kutcher film, Killers, Usher has focused on his music and his family. Now he’s ready to get back into the ring, literally in the role of legendary boxer Sugar Ray Leonard.

In an interview with Mens Health, Usher shared that he’s been preparing for the role for nearly five years. “I train like an athlete every day, believe it or not… My commitment to this character demands that I not only physically get ready, but also become him… The hair, the personality, the manner he conducts himself in — all that. He’s an incredible man.”

Now we’ll get to see his refined acting chops put to the test in “Hands of Stone,” which also stars Robert De Niro and Edgar Ramirez. The film, which is based on a true story, will focus on Panamanian boxer Roberto Durán (played by Ramirez) and his relationship with Hall of Fame trainer, Ray Arcel (played by De Niro).

Hands of Stone hits theatres August 26. Check out the trailer and let us know if you think Usher embodies Sugar Ray Leonard? Do you think he’ll get an Oscar nomination for the role?
